NRA 2017 – Consolidation and Changes creating Excitement, Hiring and Career Growth.
It was great to visit the NRA 2017 in Chicago and meet with Foodservice clients and candidates. While the industry goes through great changes and consolidation, it is still a good time for hiring with candidates looking to join new growth companies and companies looking to differentiate.
Even with the summer starting, the focus on people and hiring is still robust. Timing to fill positions may get extended, but many companies are hiring. I am busy in the foodservice industry.
The acquisitions keep accelerating. The large acquisitions including DanonWave costing $10 Billion completed and Tyson buying Advance Pierre for $4.2 Billion. In March of 2017, 58 Food and Drink transactions were recorded on bev.blog.net.
“Talking about CHANGE” – Amazon purchasing organic food specialist Whole Foods for $13.7 billion. The e-commerce giant gets deeper into the grocery retail sector. Amazon already operates online grocery store AmazonFresh. This deal includes Whole Foods’ 465 stores across North America and the UK.
Amazon in expanding its rapidly growing grocery service will change the way we buy food. Nearly one in five consumers were extremely likely to make an online grocery purchase in the next year, and another 26% said they’re somewhat likely to do so, according to data from Walker Sands.
All this activity creates change and opportunity. Companies need to make people their focus and candidates need to embrace the change to advance their careers. Enjoy the summer and take some time to consider how to take advantage of the changes and what is needed to grow your company or advance your career.
Good thing I am busy as I am taking the summer off from conferences.
The NRA 2017 was a great way to start the summer. Summer is a time for family vacations, great pastimes like baseball, picnics and good food and wine. All these pastimes I enjoy and nothing like a good hot dog. At the NRA, I had to get in line for a Chicago hot dog. This was the first time I enjoyed a “Vienna Beef” not at a Cubs game or a grab and go connecting in O’Hare. It was worth the wait.
Hope everyone has a great summer.
